Chili is another favorite from when I was growing up.  I still use my mom’s basic recipe, but I improve on it by using all turkey.  Chili is one of those dishes that you can be flexible with in adding spices or sweeteners, according to your personal taste. Add some brown sugar to make this recipe sweeter, or some green chilis to give it more bite!

Chili

1 lb. each ground turkey and turkey Italian sausage

1 small onion diced or ¼ to ½ cup frozen diced onion-your preference

2 cans chili beans (I use Bush’s chili beans in sauce, one black, one red, one mild, one medium)

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cans , 15 oz. diced tomatoes

(for thicker chili -less broth-use one can diced, one can crushed)

1 ½ cups water

2-3 Tbls. chili powder

1 Tbls. garlic, optional

Other spices to taste, or hot sauce, whatever your preferences are ;0)

Brown meats together with onion.  Drain and rinse with hot water.  Place in soup pot or crock pot and simmer as long as you like.  If you add cheese, just a sprinkle of reduced fat.

It’s Chili weather, so go ahead and enjoy!!
