My Journey, Episode 2

We finally get to the Anger….

I am a walker. I love walks, hikes, etc.  I have been a ‘dog walker’ for over 20 years and a hiker for even longer.  When I became a personal trainer/coach I began incorporating walks into my client’s sessions.  I am also a FAST walker….so much so, that my neighbor teased me and asked why I didn’t try running, since I walk so fast…?  Little did he know that I was walking fast because I was so ANGRY.

At what or who was I angry?  I didn’t even know most days. I just woke up mad at the world and soooo easily irritated.  This was not ‘normal’ for me.  A friend (older than me by a decade or so) told me once that she would sometimes warn her husband about similar moods….but, she never mentioned menopause in connection.  I wish she had, and I think that was what she wanted to communicate. However, at the time, that was taboo.

What I want you to know:

If you don’t feel like yourself; if you begin to have behaviors or feelings or emotions or mood shifts that are not really ‘normal’ for you, trust yourself.  You do not need to have physical, tangible changes or those from a ‘list’ you have seen online/by googling.  If YOU are not feeling like yourself, talk with someone.  Start with those who know and love you.  Invite them in

My hubby was very supportive and understanding, but there was no way he could know all that I was feeling...

My hubby was very supportive and understanding, but there was no way he could know all that I was feeling…

This might seem trite or trivial–But, I have talked to so many women who acknowledge that they could or should do this, but cannot explain why they don’t do it.  I am here to tell you that it can help. It helps to know:

– You are not alone,

-You are not going crazy, and

-You WILL be ok

….and the sympathetic hug from your loved one helps too, it’s scientifically proven!

So, maybe this isn’t you…you truly don’t feel you have anyone to confide in (I am here for you, I promise); or, you really don’t choose to confide in anyone.  I get that.  This journey helped me engage in a prayer-life I did not have previously.  It also allowed me to set and achieve my ‘before my 50th birthday goal’, which was to begin running for exercise (see, you are never too old to start anything!). There are some very individual, spiritually –  connected aspects of this journey and a lot of growth that can occur as a result of this often trying time in a women’s life.

Regardless of your choice or desire to confide in others, my intention is to continue this conversation with you.  Hopefully, you will gain some help, support, encouragement, tips for coping/understanding what is happening or what to expect…..hopefully all of the above.

Stick around for Episode 3 –

Not only Anger, but -Anxiety? Panic Attacks? Morning Sickness? Crawling Skin…..Am I going Crazy???!
