Don’t you just hate feeling dumb?!  For me, it can be overwhelming to have a conversation with someone about a subject I know little to nothing about.  I am not very good at faking it, either! It is an uncomfortable place for most of us, I think, and it’s something I try to be cognizant of as I build relationships with my clients.

I hope that one thing my clients will say about my approach to coaching them in their journey to a healthier lifestyle is that I try to make things as simple and straightforward as possible.  I try not to use terms that are too technical or jargon that is cumbersome.  I do use the correct terminology, for example, the muscle being employed in an exercise.  However, I also describe where it is located, so they will know what muscle I am describing without actually knowing the name. I think it is important to educate in a way that is respectful and natural.

This is pretty easy to do with the exercise piece of a health journey, our body parts are pretty standard and the way we use and work them is pretty straightforward, too.  The complicated piece is the ‘food stuff’, aka, the diet or food plan.  This is the piece that takes 90% of my clients 90% of our time together to ‘unpack’-mainly because when we finally get there, they can navigate the rest of their journey with a lot less help from me.

Over the next several weeks, I would like to take a little ‘journey’ with you (to continue the analogy) and ‘unpack’ some of the mysteries of

the nutrition piece of the journey to healthier lifestyles.  We will talk about things to ignore, like fads, folklore and hype, as well as the scale-yes, sometimes we just have to put it away!  We’ll also try to break down some basic nutrition information like macros, glucose (sugar) levels,  and serving sizes, as well as determining body composition, the effects your ‘activity level’ can have, and ways to individualize your program-because one-size does not fit all when it comes to your nutrition program.

So, I hope you stick around and travel this road for a bit, and figure out better ways to ‘fuel up’ for life’s journey ahead!

Until next time, be well!
