As I am looking over our list of Habit Hacks (we are almost to the end-whoohoo!) I am aware that the majority of them have to do with our food choices, plans and practices.  Just so you don’t think I am beating a broken drum,  I want to point out that research supports the idea that weight loss, and the healthy lifestyle that follows, are impacted more (80%) by the food habits we have and less (20%) by our physical activity.  I do not want to downplay the value of moving our bodies, I LOVE to exercise, but I want to make sure we understand that our eating habits have a greater impact on our success in reaching our goals.

Regardless of their starting point, most of my clients demonstrate that making changes to their habits involving exercise and level of physical activity is a much easier change to address.  Making changes to our food habits can be much more challenging-which is probably why it’s more important!  Life seems to work that way, doesn’t it?!

So as we approach our finish line in 21 Days of Habit Hacks, Day 19 is about Skipping Meals-DO NOT DO IT! The folks at Greatist.com stated it well: “You might think skipping meals in between parties will keep the pounds off, but it will only lower your metabolism making it harder to burn off the junk food. Eat at least three meals a day. Five or six small meals are even better “ (that’s what I always say). Eat healthy snacks in between meals such as fruit, vegetables and hummus and nuts. The main rule you should remember when you are trying to get fit is never skip your breakfast. Skipping breakfast can set you up for a roller coaster ride for the rest of your day as you battle the highs and lows resulting from an imbalance of the fuel (sugar) your body has available to it. So, use one of the 18 previous Habit Hacks, and do not skip any meals…EVER. Happy Hacking – we will see you tomorrow!
