Good morning, and happy June!!
I hope you are beginning this month with new energy and excitement concerning your personal health journey!!
I know there are a lot of concerning things out in the world right now. I know from experience these things can distract and derail us…it is understandable! However, I also know from experience that I cannot control everything, I cannot even impact everything I would like to have influence over. It is why I try to keep my focus on the here and now, on what is right in front of me, on my circle of influence.
Your health is something you DO have some control over. Maybe not complete control, there are ALWAYS stumbling blocks to be found (and conquered), but they do NOT need to become road blocks…they do not need to stop you. YOU get to CHOOSE.
You don’t have to choose crazy goals, choose simple ones. Choose daily or weekly goals that support your long-term goal of a ‘Healthier Lifestyle’.
Here are a few suggestions, pick one and start there:
- If it has a mother or comes from the ground, EAT IT!
- Use smaller plates and bowls to help with portions.
- Shoot for around 100 grams of protein and start your protein early, don’t wait until dinner time!
- Drink more water!
- Move your body! Did you know, that if you move your body for 2 minutes out of every hour you are awake (let’s say 12 hours) each day, you will accomplish MORE minutes of weekly movement/exercise than the recommended 150 min/week?? READ THAT AGAIN. Only 2 min each hour!! You can do 30 seconds each of 4 exercises, or walk for 2 min, right??!!
- If it comes from a box or a bag or is birthday cake, think twice before you eat it (see #1 above), if you do choose to eat it, make sure you and your body enjoy it AND that it happens far less often than #1 above.
Let’s do something today that our future selves will be grateful for! Don’t ‘feel motivated’, too bad – Just do it!! (thanks, NIKE)
Did you “feel motivated” this morning to brush your teeth, were you excited to get to do that? Or, did you just do it because you do it at some point each day? Your health choices are the same, some days you will feel motivated and pumped about the opportunity, some days you will have to ‘force’ yourself to make those choices. Routine is the important piece. You probably brush your teeth at the same juncture every day….Me, as soon as my feet hit the floor, I head for the toothbrush. My husband, after he eats breakfast or his first cup of coffee. You, maybe sometime in-between…But I bet you do it EVERYDAY.
Let’s do this together—TODAY!
(Now, go brush your teeth-they say for 2 mins-and while your at it, do some squats and lunges while you brush and you have your first 2 min of exercise done for today!!)
