Failed New Year’s Resolutions got you down?  Did you start strong and hit a plateau?  Doesn’t matter!  You can overcome these obstacles with a few quick, pick-me-up tips:

  1. Do What Works for YOU! I learned early on in my endeavor to coach people to “make better choices for a healthier lifestyle” that this journey is absolutely individual. This does not mean you need to, or should, do this alone.  Flying solo is actually NOT a good idea.  Having a partner/coach/spouse to come alongside you, to coach you, to hold you to some form of accountability is KEY!
  2. Excuses exist for a reason. We ALL have excuses, some are made up, some are real. Taking time to think about which ones we are making up–such as: I don’t have time, I am too tired, I can’t afford it–just to get out of doing what we should; and, the ones that are REAL – such as: I have a (work/home) schedule to keep, I have physical/ nutritional/health limitations, etc.
  3. Make it (YOU) a priority. Sometimes you have to consciously MAKE it a priority, until it’s habitual. ‘Fake it ‘til you make it’!
  4. Honesty is the best policy. I think we lie to ourselves. A LOT. I believe most of us know when we are off track, making a poor choice, sabotaging our progress. Checking in with yourself, or reaching out for help from someone (see #1) will help.
  5. Self – control (aka, Discipline) is a muscle that needs to be exercised just as much, if not more, than your biceps/triceps/quads and glutes! There are times you need to take a strong stand against a poor choice, the more you do it, the stronger that muscle and the more control you have over your choices.

Pull yourself up and dust yourself off (that’s what the rest of us are doing!) and keep moving forward!

All the best-Your Bff
