I have found that most things in life are more enjoyable when you have others sharing with you in the experience.  In case you haven’t guessed, I am an obvious extrovert!  But the journey to better health, even for the consummate introvert, is probably more successful, if not more enjoyable, when shared with others.  The reasons extend from the benefits of accountability to the elimination of the isolation that can arise from being in an unfit or overweight condition. Research shows that this isolation is pretty common among people who are over-weight or obese; it seems to be an automatic by-product for many of us.  We find it difficult to reach out, even to those closest to us, for help or encouragement.  We think we are alone, we are ashamed and we often feel defeated by the way we look or feel.  These feelings are so hard to overcome!

I want to reach out to those of you who are feeling this way and encourage you!  I know EXACTLY how you feel!  I have had those feelings and I have witnessed them in others.  PLEASE-try to break through that barrier today!  I want you to try to reach out to someone in your network of family and friends and just share with them that you are struggling.  More likely than not, you have someone who would really LOVE to support you. It might be a family member, coworker or friend who is willing to join you on your journey, or at least hold you accountable to the goals you are striving for. Even if you have someone else ‘fumbling’ through the transition along with you, I guarantee you will be much more successful with that buddy along, than if you remain in solitude
