5 to Thrive on Friday

So, here we go!! Today is our first installation of “5 to Thrive” on Fridays!!

So many of you know about ‘Motivation Mondays’, they get us pumped for the week ahead!!  As we end our week, whether good or ‘bad’, whether we are worn out or ready to party, a few tips to keep us (or get us) on track for the end of the week can’t be anything but GOOD!!

Each week I will bring five tips, tricks, hacks, short cuts, words of advice-whatever you want to call them and whatever they motivate you toward! My hope is that they will be reminders to take care of yourselves EVERY day and that TODAY is the best time to start, or continue that quest!!  They will be simple and hopefully straightforward, and sometimes they may spark questions and conversations!!

Here are your 5 to Thrive for today:

  1. Water — drink more today than you did yesterday.  Don’t worry about the ‘goal’ unless you already drink half your weight in ounces.
  2. Fasting – Don’t worry about all the ‘protocols’ if you are just starting, just think about the fact that the period of time you spend NOT digesting food, is spent repairing, growing muscle, healing.  Your body needs a rest EVERY day from digesting so it can do all of those other fabulous tasks.  Committing to a DAILY fast allows you to commit to an ‘eating window’ and this EMPOWERS you with more control over your food choices and schedule.  If you are a beginner, worry less (for now) about what foods you are eating, and practice the schedule for eating.  Allow your body 12 hours or more of rest if you can.
  3. Smaller plates – Dinner plate sizes have grown over the years and now they may not even fit in your dishwasher properly!  (anyone besides me have this happen??!)  Use the salad plate, or a smaller than normal plate to control portions.  Again, for now, worry about the AMOUNT of food!
  4. MOVE  – your body.  Sitting is the new killer among us!  It leads to so many problems and has become worse this past year!!  Just move your body more today than you did yesterday. Just start with that. (One walk before next week’s 5 to Thrive, pretty please?!)
  5. Outside – get outside, you will double your pleasure, double the fun and double the endorphins!! (for real, based on science, I promise!)
